POST TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER
Any event that an individual finds traumatic can cause Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). These include road accidents, assaults, serious health problems and childbirth to name a few. It can affect survivors of the threatening event as well as onlookers who are not themselves subjected to the trauma. The traumatic event has not been processed correctly by the brain so that you have control over it and so the traumatic memory appears uninvited in nightmares and/or flashbacks.
There are different techniques available to help.
MUSS REWIND FOR TRAUMA
‘Rewind’ is a fast and highly effective technique to help clients overcome their traumas. I use the most up-to-date technique available – the Muss Rewind Technique taught to me by Dr David Muss, of The International Association for Rewind Trauma Therapy.
This treatment is not designed to wipe the event from your memory but to process that memory correctly and so put that memory back under your control. It is as if the rewind creates a filing cabinet with a key. You will hold the key and you will be able to choose to see that memory if you choose to. You are back in control.
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy - if you do not want to relive your trauma memories ?
When we go through something really difficult or traumatic, our brain often gets stuck in a kind of survival mode. It keeps scanning for danger, even when the danger has passed, and that can leave us feeling on edge, anxious, or not quite ourselves.
In Solution Focused Hypnotherapy, we don’t need to go back over what happened or relive those memories. Instead, we focus on helping your brain feel calmer and safer again, so you can move forward.
We do this in two ways. First, through our conversations, I’ll help you notice what’s already going well, however small, and we’ll think about the future you’d like for yourself. This shifts your focus away from the past and towards building confidence and resilience.
Second, during the hypnosis part, you’ll experience deep relaxation. This helps calm the part of the brain that’s been on high alert, and allows the rational, solution-focused part of your mind to take back control. Over time, your brain literally rewires itself, so that you feel steadier, stronger, and more in control.
So really, it’s about helping you move from survival to living—focusing on your strengths, your resources, and the future you want, without needing to revisit the past.
During your initial consultation we will discuss together how you would like to move forward and which technique will be best for you.
