IRRITABLE BOWEL SYNDROME (IBS)
IBS is a gut disorder that causes digestive symptoms such as diarrhoea, constipation, bloating, and abdominal pain. If you have IBS you have an oversensitive gut that is more prone to digestive symptoms. As well as your diet, there are other factors and triggers involved in flare-ups, such as stress and anxiety.
Current research evidence concludes that hypnosis is effective in the management of IBS symptoms including pain.
NICE, which is a Department of Health and Social Care body providing guidance and advice for doctors, recommends hypnotherapy for IBS..
Gut Directed Hypnotherapy is a special type of hypnosis that is specifically designed to help manage the symptoms associated with gut disorders such as IBS. This type of hypnosis specifically aims to reduce sensitivity in the gut by addressing emotional triggers and accessing the subconscious brain processes involved with the miscommunication between the gut and the brain
I have undertaken additional specific training in evidence-based Gut Directed Hypnotherapy to support you and help you to manage your IBS symptoms.
During our sessions we will put together an ‘IBS toolkit’ that works for you and practice skills that will help you to better manage your IBS symptoms. During the sessions I will teach you: calming relaxation techniques, pain control techniques and self-hypnosis. During hypnosis I will be making helpful, useful suggestions to your subconscious mind to help your brain and gut communicate and help you regain control.
Generally, clients will show improvements within 4-6 sessions.
